Iguana has been hard at work on NFL Quarterback Club 98
and it looks as if the time spent is beginning to pay off. Quite
simply, NFL Quarterback Club 98 blows every other football
title out of the water in terms of graphical splendor, and that
includes EA's upcoming Madden 64.
Furthermore Acclaim has captured all the NFL licensing in
order to insure the most realistic football experience yet. Many
see this as EA's biggest feat. After all, hungry statistic freaks are
sure to complain about the fact that Madden 64 isn't equipped
with official NFL team names (and possibly, colors).
Still, the question remains: How does NFL QB Club 98 play?
We recently took a trip down to Iguana to get a hands-on feel
for the game. First of all, rumors have been spreading that
screen-shots of the game are actually doctored and enhanced.
This is totally false. We've seen the game in action and we can
attest to the fact that is pure graphical eye-candy. It runs
smoothly at 30fps (and this all takes places in hi-res, mind you)
as well, which is astonishing.
While the game is nearing the final stages of completion, the
team hasn't implemented the final touches on the AI system, thus
preventing us from comparing it to Madden 64, which is virtually
done. From what we did get to toy around with, though, the
game is very promising and plays well even with tweaked AI.
Iguana has plans to incorporate all the little details that make
football so great into the game. The development team is
working on including an analog throwing system which allows
for the quarterback to over-throw or under-throw passes. Small
details like frosty breath coming from the players' mouths in the
snow are also being implemented.
