Back - Saturn Reviews

SATURN BOMBERMAN

You got him on the SNES, TurboGrafx-16, Nintendo 64, Gameboy, and almost every game console available except for the doom fated Jaguar CD and now he's back with 9 other friends. Sega and HudsonSoft proudly brings one of the most addicting titles to ever grace the gaming world - Saturn Bomberman. So by looking at the screen shots you probably wandering what's different from this version then the rest. Well, you still get the same little white Bomberman who likes, I mean loves to blow up his enemies and friends and this time he's on the Saturn with up to 10 players at once. This may yet be the best multiplayer game ever made. The only game which lives up to it's name is the N64's Goldeneye. If you have Saturn Bomberman , a bunch of Saturn controllers, a large TV set and a bunch of friends over for a party, I guarantee that you will be playing this game for the majority of the party. There's really no reason to play any other games or even leave the house. It's the greatest party game on the planet. Any the Saturn version is the best incarnation yet. The Saturn version shows off its Hi-res mode that is incredibly hectic and fun although you may burn your eyes a little bit after hours of playing. Eight player modes is a little easier for the weaker eyes, And you get team play and an all new Mad - Bomber mode where you can lob bombs from the sidelines and kill your destroyer. Yes, revenge is sweet. The only letdown in the game is there is only one 10 player level. A few more won't hurt. Here's my overall review for Saturn Bomberman, and by the way, Sega needs to bring out a few more games like this to keep the system strong. And oh, don't you just hate it when you kick butt you multiplayer mode when you get trapped between your own bombs. Doh!

Graphics : 7/10
The graphics in this game are not actually something to be proud of. But this game proves that you don't need fancy graphics to play a good game, I mean look at Red Alphaslt, the music and graphics rock but the gameplay is a bit boring. And in 1997, there were a few good 2D games like Herc's Adventure, MegaMan X4, Castlevania : Sotn. Don't be discouraged because of the graphics, and trust me you'll be the most famous kid in the neighborhood just for owning this game. And oh yeah, the FMV in this game rocks. I mean cartoon quality.

Sound : 9/10
The sound and music in this game is addictive, I mean I hummed it for a whole day. The music is sounds simple but just like its gameplay its addictive.

Gameplay: 10/10
This game can be taught to anyone in the world in just mere moments. The gameplay is simple. Follow target, drop bomb, run like hell, bomb explodes and enemy not dead, repeat steps. See, simple. What bothers me is that in Saturn Bomberman 2 and Bomberman 64, the gameplay seems a little different, everything's in 3D and the bomb explodes in an explosion similar to how a real miniature bomb would. I don't know why HudsonSoft chanced their gameplay formula and I would like to see how well is fares in 3D. To me Bomberman 64 looks abit like Mario 64. Hmmm…… As they say " If it's not broken, don't fix it".

Replay : 10/10
Replay is excellent and if you do not have a friend, you can play agaisnt 9 other CPU controlled Bombermans. The computer AI is smart in this game and they can give you a challenge.

Overall : 9.2
Saturn Bomberman is one of the best action games of the year. As I said before, the Saturn needs more games like this to keep its system going. With games like Panzer Saga, Burning Rangers coming out, the Saturn looks like it can survive a few more months before it is finally pronounced dead.
