Ladies and gentlemens, get ready to kiss long loading times and crapy sound
effects goodbye cuz here comes the blockbuster hit from the arcades -- Xmen Vs Street Fighter -- exclusive
on the Saturn.( Even though the Playstation will have Xmen Vs Street Fighter EX exclusively.) Where shall I begin?
Ok first when Xmen Vs Street Fighter was announced, I thought it was going to expreince a major slowdown just like Marvel
Superheroes, also by Capcom. Well Capcom proved me wrong as they unveil their 4 meg ram card which fits in the slot
in the Saturn. This baby eliminates long load times. ( Maybe Capcom should use this gizmo for Resident Evil.)
Ok, enough already, let's go back to the game.
First the graphics and animation, if you have seen the arcade here it is
...100% intact! There is NO loading time at all, do you hear me? NO LOADING
TIMES. Well maybe I'm exargerating, the game load for 15 seconds once you turn it on
but after that, no load times. I simply can't describe anymore and
as a Capcom fan I am in video game heaven! AHHHH!
Gameplay is the standard beat em up we are already used to. The major
difference in this game is the tag team setup. Each player picks 2 fighters
that can be switched at any time and can perform a super double
if you have a level 2 power bar. Imagine having Ryu doing a beam of fireball
and Wolverine attacking alongside. And adding Apocalpyse as the boss was awesome.
And one more thing, Capcom should have added an Survival Mode and Training Mode.
And I been surfing the net for days trying to find a code for Apocalypse. Note to Capcom: Please
tell me there is a code for Apocalypse.
Sound : 9.0/10
Now for the sound, Capcom has took back the sounds of the previous
Street Fighters game and remake them. And the way they arrange it
is cool. Imagine if you have Ryu and Chun Li Vs Dhalsim and Cyclops.
It starts off with Ryu's theme song and when Ryu dies, Dhalsim's theme song
is played and when Dhalism dies, Chun Li's song get played and so on. alk about cool!
The music & sound fx are arcade perfection! Clear sound fx & voice samples
are just like it's older arcade brother. This is made possible due
to the 4-MEG ram cart which gives more space to hold all
the sound fx & music in.
Graphics : 9.8/10
The graphics are extreme. It's almsost arcade perfection. All the frames are in there
Nearly every frame of character animation found in the arcade game has been retained.
The backgrounds are detailed and nothing has been taken out from the arcade's. Everything is still
intact. And don't you just love it when Chun Li does her Super Kikoken and it fills up
the whole screen and your opponents only escape is to jump really high. The new 4 meg card
sure does its job well.
Gameplay : 9.8/10
I love the massive combos in this game because they're fun to do and looks cool.
Every Capcom fan should be familiar with the chain combos/magic series that \
allow even newbies to do some awesome-looking stuff by smashing down buttons.
The tag team concept is fantastic, and should be used in all future Capcom fighting games.
Now I can choose Wolverine and Akuma together. Yeah, Raging Deamon can kick the crap
out of anyone and Wolverine's combo is can kill you before you know it.
Overall : 9.7/10
What can i say? If you loved this game in the arcade, go buy it now!
This game has my vote for the BEST arcade to home conversion so far! Hey, it may even
win game of the year.If you want to buy the game but you worry that the game
is all in Japanese then don't worry. The options are all in English, that's the only thing
you'd really need. The taunts & endings are all in Japanese. So all Saturn owners
go to your nearest store and buy this game right away.
I thought Dead or Alive was impressive when I saw it. And it is the best 3D fighter on the Saturn. But Capcom
Xmen Vs Street Fighter is better due to its heavy gameplay.
But folks, you have to Respect with a capital R, Capcom of Japan's skills! They have stretch the power of the Saturn
and not even Sega has gone this far. This is truly the power of
the Saturn. Well just have to wait for its sequel for Marvel Superheroes Vs Street Fighter for yet another shocker.
